Location and Site
The Kiechlinsberger Ölberg is situated in the district of Kiechlinsbergen, in Endingen am Kaiserstuhl, in the region of Baden. The vineyard site consists of south-facing slopes.
Climate and Soils
The lower part of the south-facing slope is warmer due to intensive sunshine exposure, while the higher-lying parcels are cooler. The Ölberg is associated with soils made of weathered volcanic rock that warm up quickly and have a high capacity for heat storage; the proportion of loess is low.
Grape Varieties and Wines
Spätburgunder is grown in the lower part, while Grauburgunder is grown in the higher and cooler parcels. For the Kiechlinsberger Ölberg, Müller-Thurgau, Ruländer, Weissburgunder, Muskateller and Scheurebe are also documented. Bottled wines include dry Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, Spätburgunder Rosé and Spätburgunder aged in barrique, as well as Kabinett and Spätlese wines.
Cultivation
For the vineyards, reduced yields, very old vines and hand harvest are mentioned as cultivation measures. In the cellar, a classic mash fermentation is carried out.
