Site and Climate
The Nollenköpfle is a documented single vineyard site above Gengenbach at the edge of the Black Forest. The south-facing vineyard lies at an altitude of around 220 metres. Warm air from the Upper Rhine plain influences the site, which is at the same time described as comparatively cool. Climatic features of the Gengenbach vineyards also include the evening cold air that flows from the Black Forest into the valley.
Soils and Grape Varieties
For the Nollenköpfle, fertile loam soils are documented. A St. Laurent wine assigned to the Nollenköpfle comes from loam over granite. In the vineyard, St. Laurent, Gelber Muskateller, Sauvignon Blanc, Grauburgunder and Weißburgunder are grown.
Wine and Production
A St. Laurent from the Gengenbach Nollenköpfle is described as a powerful, deep-dark red wine with intense fruit and spicy notes, shaped by ageing in barrique. The documented St. Laurent QbA dry was aged dry, fermented spontaneously on the skins and stored for 18 months in used barriques. The red wines of the assigned producer are prepared using classic skin fermentation and aged in new and used barrique barrels.
