Location and classification
The Stuttgart Mönchhalde is an in-town vineyard site in Stuttgart in Württemberg. It lies below the Killesberg and forms the main site of the Großlage Mönchhalde, which also includes Hasenberg, Karlshöhe, Pragsattel and Wolfersberg.
Parcels and cultivation
The site comprises several small vineyard parcels, including terraced areas. Some parcels can only be cultivated by hand. The Lemberger area was expanded in 2019; in addition, terraces were adapted to improve access and cultivation.
Grape varieties and history
In the Stuttgart Mönchhalde, Gelber Muskateller from 2018, Trollinger from 1987, Sauvignac from 2015, Lemberger from 1995 and 2019, and Riesling from 1959 have been planted. The Riesling is trained in the Lenz-Moser system. Since the vineyard sites ordinance of 1971, the in-town vineyards have been marketed under the single-site name Stuttgarter Mönchhalde. In 1950, the municipal winery cultivated about two hectares here.
Documented wines
The Lemberger from the Stuttgart Mönchhalde is aged exclusively in barriques. The 2024 vintage of the Riesling comes from organically farmed grapes and is described as dry, fresh and acidity-focused. The grapes were hand-harvested in a directly driven vineyard site, pressed as whole berries, and aged in a stainless-steel tank.
