Location and Classification
Mittelberg is a legally defined vineyard site in the southern part of the Nahe wine-growing region. The site is located above the Alsenztal valley and is connected with Dielkirchen as well as the Steingruben district. The official geographic data also list it under Bayerfeld-Steckweiler and Steingruben.
Topography and Climate
The vineyard lies on a ridge running from the south-west to the south-east. The open, well-ventilated site is described as being less susceptible to late frost and fungal diseases.
Vines and Wine Styles
At Mittelberg, vines are cultivated on around 3.5 hectares. Documented varieties include Riesling, Spätburgunder, Silvaner and Grauburgunder. For the Riesling wines, the styles of feinherb, Spätlese, Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese are evidenced.
Historical Landscape Context
The slopes of the Alsenztal between Bayerfeld and Dielkirchen are described as a former vineyard area with overgrown terrace vineyards. Viticulture was abandoned in this landscape.
