Dielkirchen

Location and landscape

Dielkirchen is a municipality in the Donnersberg district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It lies in the Alsenztal within the Saar-Nahe uplands and belongs to the Nahe region. The valley has a pronounced valley floor with adjoining slopes. In the southern section, there are steep slopes as well as drier, rocky areas at the steeper locations.

Winegrowing

Historically, wine was grown on the sunny slopes of the Alsenztal. Today, this has been completely abandoned; in particular, overgrown vineyard terraces between Bayerfeld and Dielkirchen have been preserved. The 2024 directory of vineyard sites lists the vineyard site designation Mittelberg under Dielkirchen. Dielkirchen is also among the municipalities whose vineyard areas, under the applicable requirements, are allowed to produce wine with the protected geographical indication “Nahegauer Landwein”.

History

Evidence of settlement dating back to Roman times has been documented for Dielkirchen. The earliest documented mention of the place dates from the year 868.
