Location and History
Leiersberg is a named vineyard and/or plot designation in the Schluchtern area of Leingarten in Württemberg. Historical cadastral maps from 1835 list the names Leiersberg and Unter dem Leiersberg; the plot extended across the cadastral areas of Schluchtern and Schwaigern.
Topography and Soil
A documented plot lies on a slope with heavy Keuper subsoil. The rows of vines run at an angle of 90 degrees to the west. The outer edge receives the full southern sun in autumn.
Riesling and Maturing
In the winery’s documentation, Leiersberg is classified as a single-vineyard site. For a Riesling plot on the outer edge, vines with an age of more than 50 years have been documented. The dry Württemberg quality wine produced from this is, after a preliminary selection, left on the skins in its own juice for up to eight hours, fermented cool and for longer than six weeks in stainless steel, and developed on full lees right up to shortly before bottling.
