Location and context
Langhölle is a registered single-vineyard site in Obermoschel in the Qualitätswein growing region Nahe. In the official register of vineyard sites, it is assigned to Nahe Valley and the Großlage Paradiesgarten. The site carries the number 511373.
Landscape and soil
The vineyard area, measuring 3.25 hectares and described by Weingut Schmidt as a monopole site, lies in a wooded side valley towards Hallgarten. The documented soil type is sandstone weathering soil.
Climate and grape varieties
Cool air flows in from the surrounding forest over the vines. As a result, the grapes retain higher acidity than those from the other Obermoschel vineyards of the producer. In Langhölle, Riesling, Silvaner, Spätburgunder and Portugieser are planted.
Wines
Documented are Riesling sparkling wine, dry and off-dry Portugieser, as well as dry Spätburgunder. Riesling from Langhölle is suitable for structured sparkling wines with a long finish. A documented Riesling Sekt was produced by bottle fermentation and matured for 18 months on the lees.
