Klosterberg

Location and Classification

Klosterberg is a single vineyard in Oberheimbach within the Großlage Schloß Reichenstein, in the Loreley area of the winegrowing region Mittelrhein. The vineyards are located in the Heimbachtal on the left bank of the Rhine, but away from the river. Klosterberg is one of the four officially named Oberheimbach single vineyards.

Climate, Terrain and Soils

The site is described as cool, elevated and on the edge of the Heimbachtal. At the same time, Klosterberg is associated with a mild Rhine climate and a south-facing orientation. The vine-growing areas are embedded deep in the Heimbachtal and lie comparatively high up. The subsoil consists of slate loam, a loam formed from slate in the Quaternary period. The medium- to deep-rooted, sandy to clayey and gravelly Parabrüunerde-Rigosol shows medium to good water retention, a neutral to acidic reaction, and good ability to warm up.
