Kirchberg

Location and Landscape

Kirchberg is listed as a vineyard site under Königheim in the Tauber Franconia region. The vineyard rises there where Kirchberg and Kachelberg narrow the Brehmbach valley. The parish church of St. Martin stands on a small terrace of the Kirchberg.

Soil and Cultivation

The vines on the Königheimer Kirchberg grow on shell limestone, which is also described locally as silvery-grey shell limestone. A producer working there documents organic viticulture without chemical treatments as well as hand-harvesting. The grapes are picked by hand for a gentle vinification in the producer’s own cellar.

Grape Varieties

For the Königheimer Kirchberg, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Riesling, White Burgundy, Johanniter, Kerner, Bacchus, Dornfelder, Regent and Schwarzriesling are documented. Further evidence names Gewürztraminer, Muskat-Ottonel, Grauburgunder, Scheurebe, Tauberschwarz and Spätburgunder.

Wine Styles

The documented wines include dry, off-dry and sweet versions made from white, rosé and red grape varieties. A wine from the Königheimer Kirchberg is a dry Spätburgunder Qualitätswein from Baden.
