Location and classification
The Kayberg is a legally designated single vineyard in the wine-growing region Württemberg. The vineyard register assigns the single vineyard to the municipalities Erlenbach and Ödheim. At the same time, it belongs to the Großlage Staufenberg.
Topography and soils
The Kayberg reaches a height of about 317 metres above sea level. Vineyards are located on the slopes around its base; in the Erlenbach area, these are predominantly oriented to the south and west. Documented soils and geological subsoils include Middle Keuper, reed sandstone, Gipskeuper and loess.
Climate and grape varieties
The area around the Kayberg in Erlenbach is described as being climatically favourable for viticulture. A winery from the Kayberg area lists Lemberger as the most important grape variety. In addition, Riesling, Trollinger and Muscateller are grown; Spätburgunder is used for rosé on loess soils.
Cultivation
Between the vines, ground cover of sown and wild-growing herbs is documented throughout the year.
