The officially recorded vineyard area of Kapplay is less than one hectare. A documented plot is described as being high on the Ellerberg and facing south.
Grape variety and vine stock
For wines with the designation Ellerer Kapplay, Riesling is documented. In a historical plot there are ungrafted Riesling vines that were planted in 1944.
Wine style and harvest
Kapplay is documented as the origin for Riesling Spätlese. A wine from the 2018 vintage was fruitily fermented and has 54 grams of residual sugar per litre. The grapes for a documented wine from a cuvée with Kapplay were harvested exclusively by hand.
