Location and landscape
Kapellenberg, also known as Frickenhäuser Kapellenberg, lies to the north-east of Frickenhausen am Main in the Frickenhausen municipal cadastral area. The wine-growing area extends from Uppentalstraße to the east of the town over the slopes above the Main and Segnitzer Straße as far as the A7 motorway.
The south-facing slopes lie at between 180 and 230 metres above sea level and have a gradient of 20 to 60 per cent. The light and warmth of the nearby Main are reflected on the slopes.
Soil and viticulture
The soil consists of Upper Muschelkalk and is described as weathered and rich in rock fragments. The classified area covers 26.81 hectares. Kapellenberg is listed in the Franconian wine-growing region as VDP.ERSTE LAGE® and assigned to the Main Triangle area.
For cultivation in Kapellenberg, volume limits and careful maintenance of the vineyards are documented.
Grape varieties and wine style
The VDP-classified grape varieties are Silvaner, Weißer Burgunder and Mixed set. In local documentation, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus and Weißburgunder are also mentioned. Silvaner is regarded as the defining grape variety of Frickenhausen.
Kapellenberg is associated above all with white wines; from this site, predicate wines are produced preferentially.
Naming
The vineyard takes its name from the Valentinskapelle, which was built in 1699 in the heart of the wine-growing area.
