Site and soils
The Jungfernstieg is a vineyard site in Meersburg in the region Baden. The Meersburg State Winery describes it as Meersburger Jungfernstieg. To the east, the site borders the Meersburger Rieschen; it is also connected with the neighbouring site Meersburger Bengel. The climate is described as pre-Alpine maritime. The soils consist of glacially weathered material on an end moraine.
Grape varieties and wine styles
For the Jungfernstieg, Weißburgunder and Spätburgunder are documented. Wines include dry Weißburgunder and dry Spätburgunder Blanc de Noirs. The Weißburgunder is classified as a Qualitätswein and is described with citrus and quince aromas, pronounced acidity and a subtle hint of sweetness. Rosé wines from Jungfernstieg and Bengel are described as fruit-forward and full-bodied, with an elegant style.
Cultivation and ageing
In the Jungfernstieg vineyards, work is carried out with a focus on biodiversity, according to the State Winery. Diverse herbaceous vegetation between the vines is intended to support the ecological balance and reduce some plant protection treatments. For the Weißburgunder, hand-harvest and selection are documented. Fermentation and maturation take place temperature-controlled in stainless steel tanks. For the Spätburgunder Blanc de Noirs, the whole dark grapes are gently pressed to limit colour extraction.
Historical field names
The current site includes the formerly independently named single sites Lustgarten and Hurenwadel. The State Winery traces these names back to historical activities in the vineyards.
