Location and classification
Johannisberg is a registered vineyard site in the district of Rück within the municipality of Elsenfeld in the wine-growing region Franken. In the official vineyard register, the site is assigned under Elsenfeld, Gemarkung Rück, to the CF area classification.
Relief and soils
The site comprises steep slopes facing south and vineyard terraces at the edge of the settlement in Rück. The south-facing slope is considered climatically favourable and forms a local heat island. The vineyard landscape is linked to weathered red sandstone; for the vineyards in Rück, sand and loess clay are also listed.
Structure of the vineyards
At Johannisberg there are small-scale vineyard plots, including both cultivated and abandoned areas. Dry-stone walls and stone ridges divide up the steep terrain. Winemaking continues to be documented.
Grape varieties and wine styles
Documented are a Silvaner from Rück Johannisberg as well as red cuvées. A red cuvée bears the name Rück Johannisberg and consists of Spätburgunder, Domina and Dunkelfelder. For a business with vineyards in Rück including Johannisberg, for red wines, ageing in wood over six to twelve months is documented; selected Spätburgunder matures for up to two years in barriques.
