Location and classification
At Im Stein there is a legally registered vineyard site in Karlstadt in the Middle Main within the Franconian wine-growing region. The site is assigned to the Roßtal large district. Located between Himmelstadt and Karlstadt, it is regarded as the smallest vineyard site in Franconia.
Topography and geology
At Im Stein, beneath the overhanging rocks of the Stettener Stein, in the Karlstadt municipal area. The vineyard is situated between protective shell limestone walls. The name refers to vines that were planted under the stone overhangs of the Stettener Stein.
Grape varieties and wine style
For Im Stein, Silvaner and Riesling have been documented. A 2023 Silvaner Kabinett was selected as the Karlstadt city wine for 2025; it was described as mild, finely aromatic, clear and simply structured, with delicate fruit notes of mirabelle and quince. A 2022 Riesling Kabinett was Karlstadt city wine for 2024.
Cultivation
The vineyard is cared for, according to information from a winery working there, as part of natural cultivation, and it lies in a protected dry grassland area under the European Habitats Directive (Flora-Fauna-Habitat).
