Location and classification

Hungriger Wolf is an officially registered single vineyard in the wine-growing region Nahe, the Nahetal area and the Großlage Kronenberg. It lies in the cadastral district of Bad Kreuznach and belongs to the vineyard landscapes north of the town.

The official register of wine-growing sites lists Hungriger Wolf under wine-growing site number 510114. The registered planted vineyard area, as of the 2024 harvest, totalled 13.2 hectares.

Soils and grape varieties

Weingut Meinhard classifies Hungriger Wolf among its vineyard sites and describes it as being shaped by loess and red Buntsandstein. The main focus of cultivation is on Riesling as well as white and red Burgundian varieties.

Wine and vinification

A documented vintage from 2018 of the designation “Kreuznacher Hungriger Wolf” was listed as a Riesling and Scheurebe Spätlese, gently off-dry, with 12.5% alcohol, 5.10 g/l acidity and 12.50 g/l residual sugar. For its reserve wines, Weingut Meinhard specifies a hand harvest from the best plots of the core areas of its single vineyards, as well as longer ageing processes; Hungriger Wolf is one of the named sites.
