Location
Hubacker is a single-vineyard site in Dalsheim, a district of the municipality of Flörsheim-Dalsheim in Wonnegau in Rheinhessen. The site belongs to the vineyard site Burg Rodenstein.
Topography and climate
The entire Hubacker comprises around 23 hectares and lies at an altitude of about 190 to 220 metres. The aspect ranges from south to south-east. The parcel classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, Oberer Hubacker, lies at 170 to 200 metres above sea level, is exposed towards the south-east and has a slope of 25 to 30 percent. The Donnersberg protects this area from wind and rain.
Soils and grape variety
In Hubacker, loess, clay marl and limestone are found. Oberer Hubacker is additionally described as being composed of skeletal loess, sandy loam and slightly stony clay loam; in the geological profile, limestone is listed as the type of soil. Riesling is the predominant and classified grape variety.
Classification and name
Oberer Hubacker comprises, as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, 3.65 hectares. Dry wines from a VDP.GROSSE LAGE are referred to as VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS; these include the Hubacker GG and the Oberer Hubacker GG. The name Hubacker is connected with Hufe or Hube, a historical designation for an area. In the Dalsheim Seelenbuch from 1490, five Hufen are recorded; in 1610 the term “am Hubacker” is documented.
