Location and Classification
The Honigberg is an officially registered single vineyard in the Nahe wine-growing region and is linked with Guldental as well as Heddesheim. In the vineyard sites register, the designation is listed under regulation number 51 03 20.
Topography and Soils
The south-facing site is located on a plateau at around 210 metres above sea level. According to a winery description, it comprises approximately 30 per cent steep slopes, 30 per cent sloping areas and 30 per cent flat ground. Documented are clayey loam, clay marl and loess loam.
Climate and Ripening
The Honigberg is described as windy, which causes the areas to dry out quickly and reduces susceptibility to fungal diseases. Cold nights in September and October promote fruit development. The site ripens late; the main harvest takes place in October.
Grape Varieties and Wine Styles
On larger areas, Rivaner, Bacchus and organically farmed Dornfelder are documented. Wines with the designation Guldentaler Honigberg are also produced from Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Grauburgunder, Weißburgunder and Spätburgunder. Dry, gently off-dry and sweet wines are documented, as well as late harvest wines and quality wines. Rieslings are described as having aromas of apple, peach and apricot, fruity acidity, extract as well as spicy and herbal notes; the mineral character develops later.
