Hohe Eiche is a named vineyard site in Talheim in the wine-growing region Württemberg.
Grape varieties and cultivation
The State Domain Hohrainhof cultivates, in the vineyard sites Talheimer Hohe Eiche and Talheimer Schlossberg, a total of around 11 hectares of vines. About one third of this area is planted with white grape varieties. In the Talheim vineyards, grape varieties include Schwarzriesling, Samtrot, Spätburgunder, Lemberger, Dornfelder, Cabernet varieties, Riesling, Kerner, Müller-Thurgau, Grauburgunder, Traminer and Sauvignon Blanc.
Wine and maturation
A documented Dornfelder vintage from 2022 from Talheimer Hohe Eiche is a dry red quality wine with a deep red colour and an alcohol content of 12.2 per cent by volume. It was matured in stainless steel tanks. From the Talheim vineyards, sparkling wines are also produced using traditional bottle fermentation.
Viticulture
The viticulture of the State Domain Hohrainhof takes place with the involvement of prisoners in open custody. The work is supervised and guided by staff from the criminal justice system.
