Location and classification
Hohberg is a single vineyard site in Lörzweiler in Rheinhessen. It belongs to the Nierstein area and to the Großlage Sankt Alban. The 2024 vineyard directory lists the site in the Lörzweiler district under vineyard code 720920, with an area of 41.0 hectares.
Relief and soils
The site lies at around 155 to 180 metres above sea level and is oriented to the south to south-east. Around 90 per cent of the terrain is hilly, about 10 per cent is flat. The name Hohberg refers to the highest elevation of the surrounding hill range.
The soil is described as loess-pararendzina, with deep, fertile loam and clayey silt. Further details mention loess and sandy loam. The soils have a high plant-available water storage capacity, good aeration, good rootability and a high growth potential.
Grape varieties and wines
For Hohberg, Grauburgunder has been documented. Historical and commercial records also mention Silvaner, including a Silvaner Spätlese from the 1959 vintage and a Silvaner Eiswein from 2004. For 2015, a Lörzweiler Hohberg Rosenmuskateller Weißherbst Spätlese is documented.
The regional terroir profile links the wines with aromas of yellow fruits, apple, peach, pear and citrus fruits. Also described are a slim, refreshing structure, a gentle acidity and a medium body. Both dry and sweet Prädikat wines are evidenced.

According to information from the municipality of Lörzweiler, the Mainz collegiate foundations of St. Stephan, Liebfrauen and St. Johannis previously owned fields and vineyards in Hohberg.
