Location and classification
The Hofsteige is documented as the single-vineyard Metzinger Hofsteige in Metzingen in Württemberg. The designation corresponds to a legally defined single-vineyard designation in German winegrowing. The vineyard lies on a south-facing slope.
Soil and area
The soil consists of weathered basalt tuff and is described as a stony, clay-rich loam with higher levels of iron and magnesium, as well as comparatively moderate water retention. For the vineyard area, around 30 hectares are given; a technical publication lists 34 hectares for the vineyard area.
Cultivation and grape varieties
The cultivation of the grapes is described as nature-oriented and gentle. Under the name Metzinger Hofsteige, Silvaner, Chardonnay, Spätburgunder, Ruländer, or Grauburgunder, and Souvignier Gris are listed.

The designation is used for dry and sweet wines, sparkling wine and ice wine.
