Location and classification
Himmelshöhe is officially registered as a single vineyard, “Seeburger Himmelshöhe”, in the wine-growing region Saale-Unstrut. The wine-growing area extends across the cadastral districts of Seeburg, Lüttchendorf and Unterrißdorf and lies close to the Süßer See as well as the settlements Seeburg and Hedersleben. Hedersleben has been incorporated into Lutherstadt Eisleben.
Topography, climate and soils
The wine site is associated with the Himmelshöhe elevation, which is documented at 187 metres above sea level. It covers approximately 20.9 hectares, of which about 0.6 hectares are steep slopes. The nearby lake landscape provides the location with frequent strong, cooling winds. The documented soils consist of Bunter sandstone with a loess loam layer, slate tones and glacial till.
Development and register
The wine site was replanted in the 1990s and is described as one of the youngest wine sites in the region. The application to register Seeburger Himmelshöhe as a single vineyard in the wine site register of Saxony-Anhalt was made public in 2006. As of 31 December 2024, 21.9862 hectares of planted vineyard area were registered there.
Grape varieties and wine style
For Seeburger Himmelshöhe, Riesling, Weißburgunder, Blauer Zweigelt and Spätburgunder are documented. The wines are described as having fine structure, finesse and lively freshness. A documented wine from the site is a dry Weißburgunder Spätlese as a German Prädikatswein.
