Location and Landscape
Himmelreich is a vineyard site in Hertmannsweiler, a district of Winnenden in the wine region Württemberg. The documented vineyard includes a small, steep slope above Hertmannsweiler and extends into the upper areas at the edge of the forest. From there, there is a wide view over Winnenden and the surrounding landscape.
Cultivation and Grape Varieties
A municipal plot in Himmelreich covers about 16 ares. Due to the steep location, machine-assisted work in the vineyard is not possible there; only mowing with a motorised brush cutter has been documented. The grapes are harvested by hand. Trollinger and Riesling grow on the plot.
Wine and History
Trollinger is used to make a red wine, and Riesling to make a white wine. Both are marketed on site as Mädleswein. Viticulture in Hertmannsweiler was taken up again in the spring of 1979 through new plantings in Himmelreich after the land consolidation (Flurbereinigung) of 1976; the first harvest after the new plantings took place in autumn 1980. The municipal viticulture project began in the late 1970s; the first municipal wine with 75 litres was drunk in 1982.
Municipal Plot
In 2023, the last harvest of the municipal Himmelreich plot was documented under the previous municipal vineyard administrator. Afterwards, the plot was leased to Christian Häußer. Himmelreich is also listed as a Württemberger vineyard name with Hertmannsweiler as the associated locality within the protected designation framework for wine (geschützter Weinbezeichnungsrahmen).
