Location and Classification
The Herrenberg is an officially registered single vineyard site in Rehborn within the winegrowing region of Nahe. In the vineyard register for 2024, the site is listed under code 511333.
Area and Topography
In the Rehborn cadastre area, 1.4 hectares are planted with vines. The vineyard lies at an altitude of 150 to 190 metres, is oriented towards the south-west and has a slope gradient of 40 to 60 per cent.
Soils and Geology
The soils are described as slate with weathering material from sandstone. Geological outcrops and a mapping of stones assign the Herrenberg to the Odernheim subformation of the Meisenheim Formation within the Rotliegend Group of the Lower Permian.
Wines and Wine-Growing History
From the Rehborn Herrenberg, Riesling and Spätburgunder have been documented. These include dry Riesling Spätlesen, delicately off-dry Riesling quality wines or taller-grown vines, as well as dry Spätburgunder aged in barrique. A Riesling Spätlese from the site was fermented in a stainless-steel tank. In Rehborn, winegrowing was first evidenced for the year 1563; of the previously extensive vineyard areas, only a small part is cultivated today.
