Location on the Glan
Rehborn lies on the south bank of the Glan in the northern Palatinate. The Glan forms a side valley within the protected viticulture area Nahe, to whose protected designation of origin Rehborn belongs. The vineyard slopes on the opposite bank of the Glan are mostly oriented towards the south-east and have been historically terraced.
Viticulture in Rehborn
The official directory of wine-growing sites lists the Rehborn wine-growing sites Hahn, Herrenberg and Schikanenbuckel. Until 1975, about 40 hectares of vines were planted west of Rehborn and in the Weinwiesental; roughly 2 hectares were still being cultivated. In Schikanenbuckel, a winegrowers’ hut was built in 1958.
Historical development
After the local history of viticulture, vines were introduced into the Glan valley by the Romans at the beginning of our era. Later, winegrowing was expanded by monks in the vicinity of the Disibodenberg. The residents of Rehborn were historically obliged to deliver wine to the Disibodenberg monastery. Winegrowing in the municipality is first documented in 1563 for a wine-growing site with the name “Wingart gegen deme Stege”.
