Location and classification
The Freyburger Herrenberg is a registered wine-growing site in the cadastral district of Freyburg in the wine-growing region Saale-Unstrut. It belongs to the Schloss Neuenburg area and lies close to the castle. Documented parcels are located on a plateau above a terraced vineyard as well as on slopes above the Unstrut.
Area and soils
The official wine-growing sites register lists the Herrenberg as a single site with 13.6615 hectares of planted vineyard area. For the site, deep Muschelkalk is described.
Grape varieties and wines
In the Freyburger Herrenberg, Grauburgunder, Traminer, Weißburgunder, Müller-Thurgau, Ortega and Portugieser as well as Riesling and Silvaner are documented. The wines that have been confirmed include Grauburgunder as Spätlese and Auslese, Traminer Spätlese, as well as dry wines from Bacchus and Portugieser.
History and cultivation
For the Herrenberg, Silvaner vines from the planting year 1926 are documented. A producer who has vineyards in the Ehraubergen and at the Herrenberg sets an yield limitation of 50 hectolitres per hectare and carries out a gentle, reductive cellar treatment of his wines.
