Location and classification
Heitersbrünnchen is a legally defined single vineyard within the Großlage of Sankt Alban in the Nierstein area. The vineyard is located in the cadastral district of Bodenheim in Rheinhessen and comprises, according to the vineyard register, as at harvest 2024, 50.0 hectares of planted vineyard area. It has the vineyard number 720903.
Aspect and soils
The Bodenheim single vineyards, including Heitersbrünnchen, are documented as south-facing slopes. In the site, loess over pararendzina as well as limestone over rendzina occur. The loess-pararendzina soils are described as deep, calcareous light loam with clayey silt and a high level of water storage capacity available to plants. The limestone-rendzina soils are shallow to medium-depth, very calcareous, stony and sandy-loamy, and have a limited water storage capacity available to plants.
Grape varieties and wine style
For the south-exposed Bodenheim single vineyards, including Heitersbrünnchen, Riesling, Silvaner, Kerner and Pinot varieties are documented. With loess-pararendzina, wines are associated with aromas of yellow fruit, apple, peach, pear and citrus, as well as a slender, refreshing style and mild acidity. Limestone-rendzina is described with citrus, apple, gooseberry, mango and passion fruit, as well as balanced acidity and mineral-chalky characteristics.
Origin of the name
Within the vineyard, a small spring rises. The name-determining element Heitersbrünnchen is derived from a personal name.
