Heinrichsburg

Location and classification

Heinrichsburg lies above Schloss Seußlitz in Diesbar-Seußlitz, a district of the municipality of Nünchritz in Saxony. As a single-vineyard site, it belongs to the Großlage Schlossweinberg.

Terrain and soils

The vineyard slopes gently to steeply and has only a few terraces. Documented soil profiles include eroded luvisol-parabraunerde from periglacial loess loam over aeolian calcareous loess, loess-influenced chernozem-parabraunerde, parabraunerde from glaciofluvial sand, as well as rigosol from granodiorite material and weathered granodiorite.

Vines and cultivation

For Heinrichsburg, around 88 hectares of vineyard area are stated. In observation plots, Müller-Thurgau and Spätburgunder have been documented. As operators or owners of observation plots, in 2003 the Weingut Lehmann and the Staatsweingut Schloss Wackerbarth were listed.

Historical designation

The designation Heinrichsburg is documented in a register of estates from 1772 for Seußlitz with the entry “Auf der Heinrichsburg”.
