Location and Geography
The Neuweierer Heiligenstein is located in the Baden growing region and is assigned to Neuweier in Baden-Baden. The site, which faces west to south-west, lies at 220 to 280 metres above sea level and has slope gradients of 10 to 40 per cent.
Soil and Area
As a soil type, granite has been documented. The area classified by the VDP covers 43.05 acres. The Neuweierer Heiligenstein is classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®; this is a VDP classification and not a statutory German wine designation.
Grape Variety and Wine
For the site, Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder, has been documented. A site-specific wine is a dry red Pinot Noir of the Qualitätswein trocken category. It is made from healthy, fully ripe grapes; in addition, a reduced yield is stated. The vines are farmed by a limited number of producers.
Maturation
The documented Neuweierer Heiligenstein Pinot Noir Reserve 2023 matured for 15 months in a 225-litre barrique. The technical data sheet describes aromas of dark cherries and wild berries, as well as a dense, velvety and at the same time lively palate.
