Heiligenberg

Location and classification

Heiligenberg is a designated vineyard site in Heidelberg in the wine-growing region Baden and in the Badische Bergstraße area. The single site belongs to the Großlage Rittersberg.

Historical winegrowing

The vineyard site is associated with the southern slope of Heiligenberg above the Neckar. Vineyard paths on this slope were developed between 1837 and 1841 into the Philosophenweg. In the past, the entire southern slope was covered with vines; the phylloxera and the subsequent development with villas significantly reduced the historic area under cultivation.

Grape variety and wine character

In the Heidelberg Heiligenberg vineyards, Riesling is documented. A dry Heidelberg Heiligenberg Riesling Kabinett is described with lively acidity, aromas of peach and apple, and a long-lasting finish.
