Location and classification
Hasenlauf is a single-vineyard site in Bermersheim in the Wonnegau, an area of Rheinhessen. It lies within the Großlage Bergkloster. The official register of wine sites lists Hasenlauf under wine-site number 730101 and records 56.4 hectares of planted vineyard area for the Bermersheim cadastral district.
Orientation and soils
The vineyards are described as south-facing and located north-northeast of Bermersheim. The soil consists of loess over pararendzina: a deep, calcareous, light loam with clayey silty material, good water storage available to plants and good root penetration. The loess formed from calcareous dust that was deposited by wind during the Ice Ages.
Grape varieties and wine profile
For the Hasenlauf parcels, Spätburgunder, Riesling and Merlot are named as suitable grape varieties. The wine profile associated with the site points to aromas of yellow fruit, apple, peach, pear and citrus. A slim, refreshing structure, mild acidity and a medium body are also described.
