Hasen

Location and classification

Hasen is an officially registered single vineyard in the municipality and in the wine-growing region Eschbach in the county of Südliche Weinstraße in Rhineland-Palatinate. The area recorded in the register for the 2024 harvest is 84.5 hectares.

Wine-law classification

The site belongs to the quality wine-growing region Pfalz, the area Südliche Weinstraße and the large vineyard Herrlich. The official site code is 810701.

Soils and grape varieties

For plots of Eschbacher Hasen, a strong loess clay is documented. Wines from Chardonnay, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder and Gewürztraminer have been proven there. The bottled wines include dry Rieslings, Chardonnays and Grauburgunder.

Cultivation and vinification

For a Hasen Chardonnay, a selective hand harvest in several passes at a yield of around 30 hectolitres per hectare is documented. The vinification includes a long maceration time on the skins, nine months in tonneau and used barrique, as well as maturation on fine lees. For the Nuda-Veritas wines with Hasen as the origin, yields of no more than 40 hectolitres per hectare, extended lees ageing and a possible maturation in wooden casks are stated.
