Halde

Hochburger Halde

The vineyard site referred to as the “Halde” in Hochburg is documented as a single vineyard, “Hochburger Halde”. It is located in Emmendingen in the Breisgau wine-growing region of Baden.

Location and soils

The south-easterly exposure has a slope of up to 56 percent. It is characterised by red Buntsandstein and coarsely structured loam and lies on the Buntsandstein of the Lahr-Emmendingen foothill zone. The Brettenbach valley separates it from the crystalline geology of the Black Forest. In the associated Hochburg area, cool winds from the Black Forest meet warm winds from the Rhine plain.

Grape varieties and vinification

For the Hochburger Halde, Spätburgunder and Cabernet Mitos are documented. A Spätburgunder referred to as Hochburger Halde was aged in barriques. Documented cellar practices also include maturation on fine lees in an old vault cellar, as well as the use of barriques.
