Hahnen

Location and classification

Hahnen is a legally registered single vineyard in the village and in the cadastral area of Weisenheim am Sand, to the north of the village. The vineyard belongs to the winegrowing region Pfalz, to the area Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße and to the Grosslage Rosenbühl. In the official vineyard register, it is listed under number 821206.

Soils and vineyard area

For the Weisenheimer Hahnen, loess soils are described; a technical data sheet for a Riesling Sekt from the site states that the soil type is black earth. The registered planted vineyard area as at the 2024 harvest stood at 95.5 hectares.

Grape varieties and wines

Riesling and Weißer Burgunder are documented from Hahnen. The recorded wine styles include dry Riesling, Riesling Sekt brut, Riesling Kabinett, semi-dry Riesling Kabinett, semi-dry Riesling Spätlese and Trockenbeerenauslese.

Preparation of the Sekt

For a documented Hahnen Riesling Sekt, selected grapes are hand-harvested in several picking passes. The base wine ferments temperature-controlled in stainless steel; the finished Sekt undergoes 15 months of bottle fermentation.
