Relief and Soils

A documented parcel lies at around 180 to 240 metres above sea level on a south-east-facing slope. For Guldenmorgen, sandy and loamy marl, calcareous loams and sands from tertiary marine deposits, as well as deep, calcareous clay soils, are described. These clay soils contain a high proportion of clay that can swell, exhibit limited water and air permeability, a high nutrient content and a strong calcareousness.

Grape Varieties and Wines

In Guldenmorgen, Riesling, Weißburgunder, Chardonnay and Huxelrebe are grown. Dry Riesling quality wines are documented, including one Riesling designated as a single-vineyard wine. Such a Zornheimer-Guldenmorgen Riesling is hand-picked and developed dry as a quality wine.

Historical Development

As part of a wine-growing sites law, the historical vineyard designations for Zornheim were reduced from almost 50 to five names at the beginning of the 1970s. Guldenmorgen is one of these five designations.
