Location and context
The Schorndorf Grafenberg lies in Schorndorf in the Württemberg region and is regarded as the easternmost vineyard site in the Remstal. Together with neighbouring plots of the Sünchens, it is assigned to the Großlage Korber Kopf.
Topography and soils
The Grafenberg reaches around 361 metres above sea level and rises some 100 metres above the Remstal. The vineyard slopes cultivated today are predominantly oriented to the south and south-east. In geological terms, the site is located in the Keuper; the classified location contains clayey loam from the Keuper.
Classification and grape variety
The classified area comprises 13.05 hectares. The VDP lists the Schorndorf Grafenberg as VDP.ERSTE LAGE® and names Riesling as the grape variety given there.
History and winemaking
Vineyards on the Grafenberg have been documented as early as 1290. A confirmed Riesling from the 2023 vintage was produced as a semi-dry Kabinett wine from yield-reduced and selectively hand-picked grapes. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matured on fine lees.
