Location and classification
Gottesacker is a documented vineyard site in Hügelheim, a district of Müllheim in the Markgräflerland region of Baden. The name is listed in the Baden wine site register under Hügelheim and is one of the traditional named wine-growing areas of the town.
Site
The site is described as steep. The vineyards around Hügelheim, including the named sites, are characterised by predominantly loess and loess-clay soils. The area rises gently from the Upper Rhine plain and is therefore considered protected and warm.
Grape varieties and wine style
At Gottesacker, Gewürztraminer is grown. A wine designated as Hügelheimer Gottesacker is documented as a Ruländer, the traditional German name for Grauburgunder (Pinot Grigio/Gris). The site has also been used for an edelsüß Ruländer Auslese made from hand-picked, highly ripe grapes.
Cultivation
For winegrowing in the Hügelheim wine cooperative, yield regulation, grape reduction, environmentally friendly crop protection, and biological control of animal pests are documented.
