Location and classification
Goldstückchen is a single vineyard site in the municipality and cadastral area of Armsheim in Rheinhessen. It belongs to the sub-region of Bingen and to the large site of Adelberg. As an officially designated single vineyard site, it is listed under wine-growing site number 710202.
Area and soils
The planted vineyard area covers 157.3 hectares. The documented soil type is marl-pararendzina from calcareous loams and sands, formed from Tertiary marine deposits. The deep, calcareous clay has a high proportion of clay that is capable of swelling, as well as low water and air permeability and a high content of nutrients and lime. Ripening and root penetration are described as medium to, respectively, difficult.
Vines and wine style
The site is planted with a wide variety of vines. The wines are described as dense, powerful, full-bodied and expressive, with well-balanced acidity and persistent fruit, texture and intensity. White wines are associated with juicy exotic fruit notes such as mango, honeydew melon and apricot, while red wines are associated with dark fruit flavours and smoky spice.
