Location and classification
Goldberg is a vineyard site in the cadastral district Eßelborn in Rheinhessen. The site is classified as a single vineyard within the Wonnegau area and within the Großlage Bergkloster.
Area and topography
The planted area comprises 31 hectares. Goldberg lies at about 240 to 285 metres above sea level and faces north-east.
Soil
The documented soil consists of loess and colluvium with a deposit of humus-rich topsoil. The soil profile is described as particularly rich in humus and very easily penetrable by roots.
Wine character
The wine character is initially described as closed, with integrated, buffered acidity, and notes of apple, pear and peach. Also present are chalky and smoky impressions. As ripeness increases, the wine becomes slimmer and more linear, with a stronger expression of fruit and a medium body.
