Fronberg

Location and Classification

Fronberg is a vineyard site in Mühlbach, a district of Karlstadt on the left bank of the River Main. The site belongs to the Franconian wine-growing region and is designated as a single site within Mühlbach in the Großlage Roßtal.

Landscape and Geology

The vineyard lies in the Karlstadt dry grassland areas in the landscape at Fronberg above Mühlbach. Beds of Muschelkalk store heat and contribute to a locally distinctive warm microclimate.

Grape Variety and Wine

In Mühlbacher Fronberg, Silvaner is grown. A Silvaner Kabinett from the 2021 vintage from this site was selected for 2023 as Karlstadt’s white town wine.

History and Wine-Growing Interpretation

According to historical information from the Mühlbach local history association, the vineyards at Fronberg were acquired in 1806 together with the ruins and the grounds of Karlsburg. A municipal wine education trail and a panoramic route run through Mühlbacher Fronberg, documenting the wine-growing of the area.
