Location and classification
Frohwingert is a single vineyard site in Sankt Goar in the wine-growing region Mittelrhein. It is classified as a single vineyard within the large site Burg Rheinfels and has the wine-growing site number 32 02 02.
Topography and soil
The vineyards are located at around 120 to 220 metres above sea level. The steep slopes are oriented to the south to south-east and have average gradients of approximately 35 to 50 per cent. The site is described as benefiting from particularly high levels of sunshine.
The soil consists of light clay slate weathering material. Technically, it is described as slate from the Singhofen formations with loamy rubble over bedrock slate at a depth of around 70 centimetres.
Grape variety and vinification
Wine is documented from Frohwingert as Sankt Goar Riesling. The dry wine is described as powerful and mineral, and it matured in wooden casks.
Cultivation
The documented cultivation includes repeated manual work such as leaf removal, thinning and/or reducing the number of grapes, selection and hand-harvesting at optimum ripeness.
