Location and landscape
Flintstone, as Röttingen flintstone, is a vineyard site in Röttingen in the Bavarian part of the wine region Franken. The vineyards lie on the south-eastern slopes of the Tauber valley and offer views over the valley.
Soil and vineyard area
The geological foundation is predominantly Muschelkalk with white quartz veins. Explanations for the name refer to a Muschelkalk rock that was cleared by fire, or to finds of flintstones. For the site, around 30 hectares of vineyard area have been documented.
Grape varieties and wines
The documented grape varieties include Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Bacchus, Riesling and Tauberschwarz. From the classic white grape varieties, Franconian white wines are produced. Tauberschwarz is documented as a brick-red, fruity red wine from the region.
Viticulture and history
In the area of Röttingen, winegrowing has been documented since at least the 11th century. Within the site, a traditional, own-rooted museum vineyard was re-established and is looked after by volunteers. The mixed planting of this vineyard was developed as an old mixed planting; the former museum vineyard was taken out of operation in spring 2025.
