Location and landscape
Engweg is a named vineyard site in Niedernhall in the wine-growing region of Württemberg. The town’s vineyards lie along the slopes beside the Kocher; in the municipal development plan, Engweg is designated as the left of three vineyard areas. The area has a mild climate as well as sunny, steep slopes.
Soils and cultivation
The vineyard soils in Niedernhall consist of mineral-rich shell limestone. For the Engweg areas of the Gaufer winery, steep, skeletal shell-limestone slopes are described; the winery documents four hectares of vineyard there. Under Baden-Württemberg wine law, Engweg is classified as a single-vineyard site with reference to Niedernhall and Weißbach.
Documented wine
A wine from the Gaufer winery, labelled in 2024 as “Niedernhaller Engweg”, is produced from Riesling. The German Qualitätswein is dry and has 12.5% by volume of alcohol, 6.6 grams of acidity per litre, and 3.8 grams of residual sugar per litre. The wine was matured in stainless-steel tanks.
