Location and classification
Einsiedel is registered as a permitted vineyard site name for Klingenberg am Main in the Churfranken area of the Franconian quality wine-growing region. In the Bavarian vineyard directory, the site is listed in the section without major sites.
Geography and cultivation
The vineyard site lies in Trennfurt on the left bank of the River Main, on the eastern edge of the Bavarian Odenwald. It covers a little more than one hectare of vineyard area, slopes by about ten percent to the south-east, and is classified as a direct-access, mechanically farmable direct-growing site.
Soil and climate
The soils of the Klingenberg vineyard sites, to which Einsiedel belongs, developed from Triassic Bunter Sandstone deposits. Weathered Middle Bunter Sandstone and quartz-bound sandstone, as well as loess admixtures, shaped the soils found today. The wine-growing area has a climate influenced by the Atlantic, with mild winters, comparatively moderate summers, around 700 millimetres of average annual rainfall, and an average annual temperature of about 10 °C.
Winegrowing history
Winegrowing in Trennfurt had largely declined until the beginning of the 20th century. In the second half of the 20th century, in the field area of Einsiedel, a vineyard area of a little more than one hectare was created again, which led to winegrowing at the location returning on a larger scale.
