Location
Trennfurt is a district of Klingenberg am Main on the western bank of the Main on the Odenwald side. The vineyard Einsiedel lies in Trennfurt on the left bank of the Main at the eastern edge of the Bavarian Odenwald.
Einsiedel vineyard
Einsiedel covers a little more than one hectare and slopes away towards the south-east with a gradient of around ten percent. The site is classified as a directly accessible, mechanically workable direct site and is entered in the official Bavarian vineyard register as a designated vineyard site of Klingenberg a.Main in the winegrowing region of Churfranken.
Climate and soils
The Atlantic-influenced climate of the Klingenberg winegrowing region is characterised by mild winters, moderately warm summers, around 700 millimetres of average annual precipitation, and a mean annual temperature of about 10 °C. Spring and the development of the vines begin earlier than in other Franconian winegrowing regions. The soils formed from deposits of the Bunter sandstone and contain weathered Middle Bunter sandstone, quartzite-bound sandstone and loess.
History of viticulture
The town of Klingenberg has a document dated 23 May 1348 as the first documented indication of winegrowing in Trennfurt. It lists vineyards among the sold plots of land in “Trimfurth”, the historical name of Trennfurt.
