Location and classification
Eichert is a single vineyard site on the Eichert hill near Sasbach-Jechtingen in the Baden Kaiserstuhl. The site is located close to the Rhine and an old arm of the Rhine, which contributes to a distinct local microclimate. Sasbach is the assigned locality in Baden.
Soil and aspect
The non-terraced vineyard area, oriented to the south, is planted along the slope. The vines grow on volcanic weathered material, referred to as tephrite, as well as on stony slopes.
Variety and wine character
Spätburgunder is cultivated in Eichert and used for an Eichert wine. A documented Spätburgunder from this site is described as restrained in aroma, multi-layered on the palate and mineral.
History
In 1923, Georg Gustav Wiedemann acquired an estate on the Sasbacher Eichert and began converting the operation to viticulture. Later generations expanded the estate. In an official notice, Eichert is listed as a single vineyard site; the Jechtinger parcel 5226 is assigned to the single vineyard site Eichert and the grand cru Vulkanfelsen.
