Location and surroundings
The Eckartsberg is a vineyard site within the built-up area of Breisach am Rhein in the Baden winegrowing region and in the Kaiserstuhl. The site lies south of the town centre on the Eckartsberg, which reaches 221.3 metres above sea level and is planted mostly with vines. It is directly on the Rhine front and is oriented towards the Rhine.
Soil and cultivation conditions
The documented soil consists of weathered volcanic rock; a further site-related description mentions a volcanic subsoil with a loess covering. Heat storage in the rock and reflection from the Rhine are cited as factors for the growing conditions. For the Eckartsberg, manual vineyard work, selective harvesting and yield limitation are documented.

The VDP site profile lists Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder as classified grape varieties for the Breisacher Eckartsberg. The Breisacher Eckartsberg is listed with the VDP as VDP.ERSTE LAGE, with a classified area of 3.46 hectares.
Documented wine
A documented Spätburgunder from the Breisacher Eckartsberg is a dry red wine with aromas of dark cherry and spices, dense fruit and fine tannins. Traditional mash fermentation is complemented by ageing in barrique.
