Location and classification
Ebersberg is a single vineyard in Bodenheim in the Nierstein sub-region of Rheinhessen. The collective vineyard is Sankt Alban. Ebersberg belongs to the Großlage Sankt Alban and to the Nierstein area in the protected wine-growing region Rheinhessen.
Topography and soil
The site lies at approximately 119 to 144 metres above sea level. It is oriented to the east to south-east, or east to south, and has a slope gradient of around 5 to 20 per cent. The soil consists of calcareous loess and pararendzina: deep, light-coloured loam with clayey silt. It is calcareous, rich in nutrients, well rooted and can store plant-available soil water.
Grape varieties and wine style
Riesling is the most important grape variety in Ebersberg. In addition, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc are grown. The wines are associated with notes of yellow fruit as well as aromas of apple, peach, pear and citrus. Their style is described as relatively lean, with mild acidity and a medium body.
Historical name
The vineyard was documented in 1297 under the name “Erweybohele”. The name is connected with the former cultivation of peas on the hill.
