Dezberg

Location and classification

Dezberg is an officially designated single vineyard in the communities Eberstadt and Gellmersbach, a district of Weinsberg. The site belongs to the wine-growing region Württemberg and is assigned to the Staufenberg large-vineyard classification system.

Soils and wines

For the vineyards in Weinsberg-Gellmersbach, including the Dezberg parcels, mostly Keuper and sandstone-weathering soils are described. In connection with the best wines, Bunte marls and reed sandstone are also mentioned. Documented Dezberg wines include dry Grauburgunder and dry Spätburgunder as German Qualitätsweine.

Cultivation and maturation

For its single-vineyard wines, including wines labelled Dezberg, documented by Weingut Leiss, it cites low yields, selective hand harvesting in several passes, and the use of healthy, fully ripe grapes. Maturation takes place in traditional wooden casks and small barriques.
