Location and Classification
The Cyriakusberg is a vineyard site between Sulzfeld am Main and Kitzingen in the MainSüden area of the wine-growing region Franken. Above Sulzfeld am Main, the site lies on a ridge of higher ground or an elevated landform. The Cyriakusberg is listed officially as a single site within the Großlage Hofrat.
Soil and Climate
The vineyards of the Cyriakusberg are described as sunny vineyard sites. The subsoil consists of Lettenkeuper; above this are shallow soils over beds of Muschelkalk.
Grape Varieties and Wine
For wines with the designation Sulzfelder Cyriakusberg, Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau are documented. A 2024 Silvaner is a dry white Kabinett wine from Franconia with 10% alcohol, 6.2 g/l acidity and 5 g/l residual sugar; it was bottled in a Bocksbeutel.
Name History
The name of the vineyard site refers to the battle of Cyriacus, which took place on 8 August 1266 at the site of today’s vineyard. The date fell on the feast day of Saint Cyriacus.
